Sunny Beach is only 3 km away from Sveti Vlas and is one of the largest and most popular resorts in Bulgaria. In addition to the beautiful beaches and developed infrastructure, it offers tourists and visits to many interesting sights located in the vicinity of the resort. The ancient town of Nessebar is only 3 kilometers away from Sunny Beach. The town of Nessebar is situated in a beautiful place called the Nessebar Peninsula. The town is divided into old and new parts. The old part is an architectural masterpiece and an open-air museum that has been wonderfully preserved until today. Nessebar is listed as a World Heritage Site and is protected by UNESCO. The town is not only one of the oldest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast but also one of the oldest towns in Europe. There are the remains of 40 churches in the town. Some of them have been preserved in their original state. The oldest basilica "St. Sofia" was built in the 5th-6th centuries. Another open-air museum is the town of Sozopol, a former Greek colony. It is approximately 70 km from Sunny Beach. Like Nessebar, Sozopol is divided into old and new parts. The old part of the town is the most interesting. There are about 180 residential buildings, dating from the middle of the 18th-beginning of the 19th century. Ropotamo Reserve is situated 12 kilometres south of Sozopol. It is one of the most visited shelters in Bulgaria. Regular excursions are organized there from different parts of the country. The reserve is situated along the Ropotamo River, which is often compared to the Amazon. It consists of several inland nature reserves: Snake Island, Arkutino, Water Lilies, Sea Wormwood and Stamopulo Swamp.
